Content and moderation policy.
Portico Play hosts games and competitions that brands run for their players. Most of what players see is chosen from lists we control. A few things are visible to other people: aliases, group names and emblems, leaderboard nicknames and share pages. This policy says what is not allowed there, how to report it, what we do, and how we tell you.
1. Where it applies
| Surface | Who can see it | Free text? |
|---|---|---|
| Rivals alias and emblem | The group; the public only if the player opts in | No, from a list |
| Rivals group name and emblem | The public, for public groups | No, from a list |
| Rivals directory and tournament | The public | No |
| Share pages and cards | Anyone with the link | No |
| Leaderboard nickname | The public | Yes, 2–20 characters |
| Survey and form answers | Only the brand | Yes. Not public; the brand handles them under its own policy |
2. What is not allowed
| Clause | Rule | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| C1 Illegal content | Anything illegal under EU law or the law of the country where it is seen | Threats, hate speech, child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, defamation, trade mark infringement |
| C2 Threats and violence | Threatening, encouraging or glorifying violence or self-harm | “I will find you”, a nickname wishing death on someone |
| C3 Harassment | Targeting, bullying or humiliating a person | A nickname insulting another player by name |
| C4 Hate | Attacking people for race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age | Slurs, coded hate symbols |
| C5 Sexual content | Sexual or sexually suggestive content | Explicit words in a nickname |
| C6 Personal data | Sharing anyone’s personal information | A phone number or full name as a nickname |
| C7 Impersonation | Pretending to be the brand, Portico, staff or another person | A nickname such as “Brand Support” |
| C8 Spam and scams | Advertising, links, phishing, scams | A URL or a promo code as a nickname |
| C9 Cheating and abuse of the game | Several accounts, bots, exploiting bugs, invitation farming | Dozens of accounts to rally one player |
| C10 Unsuitable for a family or brand audience | Profanity or drug references the filter missed | — |
A game’s own terms, such as the brand’s participation terms for a Rivals season, may add rules for that game.
3. How to report
Report appears next to every public alias, group, nickname and share page. You can also write to [email protected]. The form asks for:
- what you are reporting (filled in from where you clicked);
- why: the clause it breaks, C1 to C10;
- an explanation of why you think it is illegal or against the rules;
- your name and email if you want an answer (optional; not needed for some offences, such as child sexual abuse material);
- your confirmation that you report in good faith and believe the information is accurate and complete.
You do not need an account. You get a notice number at once. If you gave your email, you get a confirmation and later our decision.
4. Who handles it
| Step | Who | Target time |
|---|---|---|
| First look | The brand’s moderators, in the console | [24 hours] |
| Fallback | Portico staff take over anything not handled within [48 hours] | [72 hours] in total |
| Orders from authorities | Portico staff only | As the order requires; receipt confirmed without undue delay |
| Threat to life or safety | Portico, at once, and we inform the police | Same day |
Decisions are made by a person, with care, objectively and in good time. Automated tools, such as the nickname filter, rate limits and invitation caps, can block or flag content but do not decide a report.
5. What we can do
| Action | Used for | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Dismiss | Nothing wrong found | No change. The reporter is told |
| Rename alias | C2–C7, C10 on an alias | The alias becomes a neutral one from the list |
| Rename group | The same, on a group name | The group gets a neutral name |
| Clear nickname | Any clause, on a leaderboard nickname | The nickname is removed; the score stays as “Player” |
| Revoke share | A share page used for C1–C8 | The link stops working |
| Remove member | C9, or repeated C2–C4 | The player leaves the group and the current ranking; history shows “Former member” |
| Void attempt | C9 | The attempt no longer counts |
| Freeze group | Investigation | The group is paused |
| Suspend | Repeated misuse | Posting or reporting paused for a set time |
| Escalate | C1 with a threat to life or safety | We inform the police |
We choose the lightest action that solves the problem.
6. Statement of reasons
Whenever we restrict something a player provided, we tell that player at the latest when the restriction starts, in the game’s inbox and by email if we have one. We do not send one where we have no contact details, or where an authority asks us not to. The statement says:
- what we did, its scope and how long it lasts;
- the facts: how it came to our attention and who reviewed it;
- whether automated means were used;
- the law it breaks, if we believe it is illegal;
- the clause of this policy it breaks, if it is against the rules;
- how to disagree: reply to the message or write to [email protected], quoting the notice number, and a person not involved in the decision looks at it again. The DSA page lists the other routes.
7. Telling the reporter
If the reporter gave an email, we send our decision and say whether automated means were used.
8. Records
We keep reports, decisions and statements for [24] months after the case closes, then delete the reporter’s contact details and keep anonymous counts.
9. Changes
We publish changes on this page with a new date. Changes do not apply to decisions already made.
